Cobras name Plumlee head coach

March 14, 2017

There's a new "King Cobra" in Garland County.

Late Monday night, Fountain Lake High School announced that J.D. Plumlee will become its next head football coach.

Over the years, Plumlee has coached at Malvern, Hot Springs, Lakeside and Harrison. Last year, he helped lead Russellville to the Class 6A state championship as the Cyclones' offensive coordinator.

"Elite--that's what we're going to go after," Plumlee said. "We're going to play fast and play physical. I'm thrilled to death, and I won't sleep tonight."

Plumlee fills the vacancy left behind after former head coach Tommy Gilleran accepted the head coach position at his alma mater, Lake Hamilton. Gilleran amassed a 104-52-2 record during his 13-year tenure with the Cobras.

Fountain Lake finished 2-8 in 2016, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
